Ryan Brydges

PhD

Scientist

Biography

Dr. Ryan Brydges conducts research in three related domains:

(i)  Using theories of self-regulated learning to understand how to design training environments that prepare clinicians to be effective in their future lifelong learning

(ii) Optimizing the instructional design of healthcare simulation (and other technology-enhanced learning modalities) for training and assessment of healthcare professionals

(iii) Integrating simulation-based and workplace-based training and assessment practices, to ensure ongoing quality improvement in how healthcare professionals deliver data-driven and data-informed top quality care to all patients and families.

Through his studies of self-regulated learning and healthcare simulation, Dr. Brydges aims to understand how training and assessment practices translate into healthcare professional’s behaviours and health system outcomes. His applied education research has implications for health care system reform at the individual and systems levels, and for increased efficiencies in healthcare resource utilization.
